Alderwood Bed and Breakfast | B&B in Newton, MA
Average rating:

Picture a magnificent setting. A tree-lined street, quiet, except for birds chirping, beautiful home and the most gracious hosts.

Myra and Richard make this place very special from the wonderful breakfasts to stimulating and enjoyable conversation. The rooms are meticulously decorated from the beds to the wide array of books for guests to enjoy. They truly made my first visit to Boston very memorable. I will definitely return.

I've stayed in B&Bs all over the world, but I've never enjoyed one more than the Alderwood. Myra and Richard are not only the perfect hosts--cooking delicious (and healthy) breakfasts and offering rides and advice to guests--they are wonderful company. Breakfast at their table was the high point of every day, for both the food and the conversation. The house is gorgeous and art-filled, the rooms lovely, the beds like clouds. I agree with the guest who wrote "ten stars on a scale of five"! Heck, why not twenty? Bravo, Richard and Myra--and thanks! I can't wait to return.

As frequent visitors to Alderwood this season, we enthusiastically encourage travelers to book this delightful bed and breakfast location. Of course the accommodations were lovely, but better still was the warm and caring environment that Myra and Richard created for their guests. We always looked forward to such interesting conversation over the most delicious breakfast menus. As accomplished and well-travelled professionals, Myra and Richard have a true understanding of how to make one’s stay enjoyable. On a scale of one to five, this B&B is a ten!

I can't say enough for how pleasant my stay was. Myra and Richard welcomed me like family, cooked delicious breakfasts, and shuttled me back and forth to Hebrew College in Newton Centre as well as to the T station. Their conversation was stimulating and my bed was heavenly. Thank you!

One of the very best B&B experiences I've had! Myra and Richard have a beautiful home, quiet and peaceful on a tree-lined cul de sac. Lovely, restful and pristine accommodations. Delightful hosts and so interesting too - they're world travelers and Myra is a superb artist - her work adorns the walls of each room. Breakfast was fantastic…all in all, a wonderful stay, I look forward to coming back!

I had to travel to the area to undergo a minor procedure with a nearby surgeon. Unfortunately my wife couldn't come with me and I wasn't relishing the idea of spending two nights alone in a hotel room. I'm so glad that I found the Alderwood Bed and Breakfast. Myra and Richard were wonderful hosts! We enjoyed conversations the evening before my procedure and at breakfast that morning helping to allay my anxiety. After the procedure it was so nice to comfortably relax on the couch in their living room. They were concerned for my recovery and were kind enough to check on me and make sure that I was OK the morning before my appointment, that evening and the following morning. It felt like I was staying with friends. I can't recommend this B&B enough!

We chose to stay at Myra and Richard's Guesthouse as an alternative to an impersonal hotel in the city during our trip to Boston. We were not disappointed with our decision. Both Myra and Richard were excellent hosts; they took care to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They took such an interest in us and particularly our 2 year old daughter who felt immediately at ease with them and their beautiful house. Thank you Myra and Richard for making our stay such a memorable one!

My sister and I stayed at Myra and Richard's place when we returned to our home town, Boston, for a visit. Definitely best bed & breakfast experience ever! The room was lovely and very comfortable, the breakfasts were delicious, the cat is adorable, and we enjoyed chatting with Myra and Richard over breakfast. Lots of books in the bedroom and the house is clean, quiet and charming. We recommend it very highly!

Upscale Delights, Captivating Hosts

Alderwood offers two very comfy, well-appointed rooms in an upscale house on a tranquil cul-de-sac. Be prepared for deliciously-varied breakfasts and knowledgeable, welcoming hosts, Myra and Richard. For thirty-odd years, this widely-traveled, professional couple has perfected the art of making visitors feel at home. An accomplished painter (and cook!), Myra's artwork adorns the airy, modern, tree-lined home equally accessible to Boston and key environs. Spirited exchanges on a host of subjects infused our four-day stay, providing a memorable visit we will long recall with wide smiles.

I stayed with Myra and Richard while visiting my daughter who is studying at Boston College.

It was so convenient to B.C - just a 3 minute walk and I could catch the student shuttle from Newton Campus.

The large and fabulous breakfasts kept me going all day.

Myra and Richard were wonderful company and hosts, they looked after me, and made my trip very enjoyable.

Such a wonderful place to stay! The Ashley room was extremely bright and comfortable, enough space to do yoga in! Myra cooked amazing breakfast every morning, and was very accomodating to the time, in which we wanted to have breakfast. She even made a chicken and apple sausage, along with some tasty potatoes! My goodness, how I long to be at Alderwood bed and breakfast again soon! The drive to Boston was short, about 10 minutes and without traffic. Very pleasant place to stay away from home. Richard was also great company, and both had very insightful things to say- and there was never a dull moment at the table. Myra and Richard- Thank you again for all of your kindness that was bestowed!

I'm from Mexico City and I have traveled to many parts in the world, but the experience to be with Myra and Richard has just confirmed my idea that the world can be a better place.

The experience totally surpasses that of a traditional B& B. Both are kind spirits, warm, affectionate human beings. If diplomats and politicians had just a little of the talents and skills this wonderful couple has, I'm sure conflicts and wars would just exist in fiction.

It is a PRIVILEGE to be with Myra and Richard and I feel blessed to have met them.

Ps. There are no stars enough to rate the whole experience.

Staying with Myra and Richard was just icing on the cake. Their home was warm and inviting and very comfortable...and Myra's Breakfasts (different every morning)were the perfect way to start the day. The conversation was wonderful and I looked forward to seeing Myra and Richard when we got home each day from our outings. It felt like we were staying at a favorite relatives house. I feel like I made new friends, and I miss them already!

My 3 sisters and I have never stayed at a B&B in our 16 years of annual "sister's trip's". This was truly a uniquely wonderful experience for us all. Myra & Richard are the most wonderful people you could meet. They treated us like family, we felt so welcome in their home. Myra prepared fabulous breakfasts for us each morning of our stay, Richard would drive us to the "T" each morning. I would recommend their home to anyone visiting the Boston area, our stay in Myra & Richards home truly enhanced our wonderful trip to Boston!

A great bed and breakfast - a home away from home. We stayed during the Bostan Marathon and it was a beautiful walk to view the race.

Myra and Richard let me use a folding lawn chair and it was a wonderful day. Myra's breakfasts are a special treat. I'm not an "egg" person, but hers were wonderful!

My daughter and I stayed at Alderwood B&B in April 2011, while on a college-visiting trip to WPI (Worcester Polytechnic Institute). The public transportation connections from the Boston airport to the town of Newton were easy to figure out online, and our host Richard drove us between the train station and the bed and breakfast. Newton was a good staging location between Boston and Worcester. Our hosts mentioned that many people stay at Alderwood while visiting Boston College, which is very close by.

Alderwood B&B is a lovely private home in a quiet tree-lined neighborhood. We rented both of the available bedrooms, which share a separate bathroom. Very comfortable, very clean. Not sleek and chilly, not full of chintz and knick-knacks. Lovely, attractive, and restful.

Myra and Richard are gracious and interesting hosts. Myra’s breakfasts are fresh and appealing, and her excellent paintings contribute to the restful, at-home feeling you get there.

Very nice people, and a highly-recommended B&B.

The amenities are great! The bed is super comfortable, the linen is super soft,

the pillows are super relaxing! The room is spacious and full of light. The location is exceptional-an enjoyable walking distance from the center.
